Currently, I have an obsession with bands that successfully mash new sound with an overall retro vibe, which is probably why I can\u2019t stop listening to the album \u201cIn a Tidal Wave of Mystery\u201d by Capital Cities. The indie electro duo does a fantastic job of incorporating brass instruments, synthesizers and catchy lyrics into an ’80s pop feel. This album is chill and upbeat all at the same time; it’s easy to relax to or groove to! “In a Tidal Wave of Mystery” really caters to any mood.<\/p>\n

A show that really has me hooked is “Parts Unknown” with Anthony Bourdain. You never really know what you’re going to experience, and this show explores places you quite possibly would never even consider visiting … at least for the most part. That, for me, is the charm of the whole thing. The show can be described as a mish-mash of parts: documentary, food, travel, history and comedy. Bourdain takes the path less traveled to some of the most fascinating places around the globe and adds his own commentary.\u00a0Each episode takes viewers\u00a0anywhere from big cities to small remote villages, with in-depth insights on local cultures and customs, history, current events, as well as food, music, politics, social and economic conditions,\u00a0local celebrations,\u00a0oddities and more. However, the common thread throughout is food, as Bourdain is a renowned chef himself. Local chefs will cook up some unique dishes specific to the region, making each experience completely unique unto itself.\u00a0I enjoy the personal, one-on-one conversations and Bourdain’s inquisitive and friendly nature with the locals. For some reason, I always want to pour myself a beer while watching this show.<\/p>\n

I just finished reading \u201cFly Away\u201d by Kristin Hannah. It is the sequel to \u201cFirefly Lane,\u201d which I loved. The story follows three women at different places in their lives as they try to explore their understandings about love, family, loss and redemption. Although it didn\u2019t pull me in as quickly as “Firefly Lane” did, once the characters were established, I was hooked! I found myself most interested in the story of Cloud, Tully’s forsaken mother. I was drawn in by her past, her present and all that she has gone through. Kristen Hannah is a fantastic writer who really knows how to pull at the heart-strings, and I would definitely recommend any of her books. Just a warning though … have your tissues ready!<\/span><\/p>\n
