Just as St. Patrick’s Day brings out the Irishman in everyone, on Cinco de Mayo we’re all Mexican. However, this doesn’t mean we need to completely forsake our drinking identity. After all, who knows how to celebrate a holiday better than Wild Whiskey Willie? Margaritas have long been the symbol of celebration for the holiday, and while traditionally tequila based, we’ve uncovered a few recipes embracing liquors of all varieties. They’re sure to bring out the “spirits” in everyone.
Classic Cinco Margarita
Don’t let the name fool you, this traditional tequila margarita is ideal for those who celebrate Cinco de Mayo all year through. Served well as a “hair of the dog” from Cinco de Mayo Eve festivities.
• Silver tequila
• Cointreau
• Lime Juice
• Salt
Shake tequila, Cointreau and lime juice well with cracked ice. Strain into chilled glasses with salt on rim.
Viva Vodka Margarita
An ideal blend for those guests showing up because they can’t say “no” to an invitation. Lime wedges are dual purpose for gag orders when they begin to exercise too much name/place dropping.
• Vodka
• Triple Sec
• Sour mix
• Club soda
• Lime wedges
Pour vodka and triple over ice. Top with sour mix and soda. Pretty up with lime wedges.
Wise Whiskey Margarita
The margarita for those who bring an inflated sense of honor and wisdom to your table. Best served as a heavy pour to induce possible memory lapses.
• White whiskey
• Cointreau
• Lime juice
• Lime wedges
• Salt
Combine all ingredients and shake until cold. Fill glasses with ice and strain blend on top. Top rims with salt and lime juice.
Risky Rum Margarita
Typically served to the randoms you invited. You’re not sure of their alcohol preferences, but it seems like something they might drink, right?
• White rum
• Cointreau
• Lime juice
• Simple syrup
Shake all ingredients over ice, then pour over crushed ice in a margarita glass. Top rip with salt and lime.
Bud Light Ber-Ritas
The dependable solution for the undependable invitee. Convenient to pick-up, and easy to store because they may show up at 5:00, or they may come for after-bar hour.
Can be found at your local alcohol retailer in lime, mango, strawberry, cranberry and raspberry flavors.
Whatever you serve up this Cinco de Mayo, enjoy the day with you and yours responsibly!
