My love for garage rock knows no season. But The Raveonettes‘ dreamy fuzz works particularly well as the weather starts to warm up. This group mashes all my buttons at once — cooing, 60’s girl group melodies, noiry, reverb drenched guitars, 2-step surf beat, piles of sonic dirt — and Dead Sound is The Raveonettes at their sugar rush peak. A lot of critics dismiss them as mere Jesus and Mary Chain ripoffs, but JMC never had hooks this good.

I’m just diving into Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  I’m already hooked by the writing style.  Wild is a raw memoir, written by a strong female who takes on the Pacific Crest Trail alone, but what I have found inspiring is her emotional honesty about transformation.  I would highly encourage anyone to pick up a copy, especially because the film releases this year (starring Reese Witherspoon).  Plus, it’s a great read if you’re gearing up for hiking and camping this summer!
