I have been sneaking chapters of the hilariously written, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, by Jenny Lawson.
I’m an avid fan of self-deprecating, irreverent, humorous memoirs (think: Sedaris, Burroughs), and Lawson doesn’t disappoint. But be warned: this is the kind of book that will make you laugh out loud and maybe cry a little, so use caution if reading in public, especially on an airplane where you are more likely to be assessed as behaving oddly and possibly taken into custody for questioning. Then again, if that happens, at least you’ll have this book to read which will certainly lighten the mood in the event of any cavity searches.
Lawson, also known as The Bloggess, has an awesome blog that I’ve been obsessed with for years. One of my favorite submissions was from 2011 called: And That’s Why You Should Learn to Pick Your Battles. It got a good deal of viral traction back then, but if you missed it, here’s your chance to give it a whirl.

Just when I thought I couldn’t stand the T-Swift, a video surfaced of her visiting a sick kid in the hospital. They discuss how cool Spiderman is while playing blocks. Then she sings a song just for him. When she hits the chorus, he recognizes the song and goes crazy. I struggled to not get choked at my desk. Before I knew it, I found myself humming “We are Never Getting Back Together,” a song I used to passionately hate, at the water cooler. My wife has her latest CD. I’m embarrassed that I’m not embarrassed to say, it’s pretty good. Someone get me some Swiftamine – stat!
